We are proud of all our students who work hard to develop the many fascinating and extraordinary projects that make up our fair!

We extend our sincere thanks to the
volunteers who judge the competition.
Mathews is very fortunate to enjoy the benefits of active
community involvement. The Science Fair is judged by experts from the community. Check out just a few of their many valuable comments from previous years below. We appreciate
all the time and expertise our volunteers generously give.

“What a great and educational experience. Had a great time learning about each project and getting to know the students. I was amazed at effort put into each project. You could tell some students have a devoted interest in Science and their experiment idea.” Melanie Mahaffey

“I found the enthusiasm from the students absolutely amazing. They were great at explaining their task and it’s a great reflection on the teaching standards at Mathews. The whole judging process is well orchestrated and managed.” Chris Moyseos

“A general thing I noticed with (mostly) the experiments was teacher or parental involvement in developing the projects, something which I always thought was discouraged, as it sometimes leads to parents controlling the project. It wasn’t apparent whether that was encouraged or discouraged. The projects which stood out were self planned and were generally on a subject [the students] enjoyed…. I enjoyed the projects and especially meeting the kids and talking to them about their projects. Thank you!” Scott Smart

“This gets better every year! Thanks for identifying the types of projects for us – really helpful. Also, all the kids did excellent with the interviews – keep up the good work encouraging the kids to be so well-spoken. I love this school, and the passion you all have for events like this is obvious. Thanks for inviting me to be a part of it!” Katie Ryan

“I really liked to watch kids explaining their project fervently. This is a really good chance for children to be motivated to study in science field.” Gubeom Nam

“A missing, necessary category is ‘difficulty’ of project. A factor for how ambitious and complex a project undertaking is varies widely from student to student and is not addressed in the scoring rubric.” Miriam Meister

“It’s so nice to see kids doing science. Maybe try to teach students to not rely on their parents so much.” Laura Tseng

Thanks also to our teachers who pull this wonderful event together!
