If you have old electronics, small appliances, or gadgets that you’ve been meaning to recycle or throw out…we will take it off your hands! We are seeking electronics for our De(con)struction Tables at Octoberama. The Deconstruction table is a place where kids disassemble mechanical or electronic things to see how some parts work, or put parts together in new ways with extra materials we provide.
Ideal items are – things that can be disassembled with simple hand tools, have LEDs, motors, gears that can be powered with a 9V battery. Examples of items you can include: hard drives, case/ cpu fans, remote controls, phones, and relays.
Things we can’t accept and/or dangerous—e.g. nothing that can break, sharp (glass), or is toxic (mercury thermostats).
If you have gadgets to donate, please leave them in the office in the Booth Donations bag (please do not leave them in the toy prize bin). We will be collecting items through October 13th at 3pm.

Thanks to our amazing Stepping Stones volunteers we had an extremely successful week! We had such a successful workday last Saturday we were able to get almost all of the stones completed and we do not need to meet on Oct. 3rd! Here is a recap:
Wednesday – Friday – Kids in 3rd – 6th grades designed and set mosaic steppingstones with the insightful, creative guidance of Mrs. Belknap and the energetic support of parents and community volunteers.
Saturday– Parents and community volunteers came out and got their hands into the process with the messy and fulfilling work of grouting the stepping stones.
The next time you walk the school halls check out the beautiful works of art lining the 1st floor. (*Please help people remember to look but don’t touch while the grout slowly dries*)

Summer was fun … but it’s awfully nice to get back into a normal routine again. =)
After Back-to-School Night this Thursday evening, our next big event will be the Octoberama school carnival on October 17th! This is one of our favorite festivities of the year, and we hope to see everyone there! Live music, exciting games, delicious food, and happy squealing kids all around — you won’t want to miss it.
It’s also a fantastic fundraiser for our school, raising about half the PTA’s budget for the entire year. Proceeds fund our Tech Program, Maker Movement, Visiting Authors series, and much more.
A great portion of Octoberama proceeds come from the Silent Auction we host every year. Mathews is fortunate to enjoy the support of businesses around West Austin and beyond who donate goods and services of every stripe to this good cause. And we’re seeking your support to bring the operation to success!
We’re seeking volunteers to join the Silent Auction committee. Activities range from calling area businesses, to picking up donated items, to merchandising and setup of the auction room. Commitment is around 2-4 hours/week now through October 17th.
We’re seeking donations. If you own a business or can offer a valuable service, please consider donating an item for sale. All proceeds go directly to Mathews student programs, and your donation qualifies as tax-deductible at its full retail value.
