6th Grade Camping Trip

The best thing about being a 6th grader at Mathews Elementary is the camping trip!

All the 6th graders went to The Outdoor School at Camp Champions in Marble Falls on April 1, to experience life in the outdoors. We stayed there for three days and two nights.

To raise money, we had two car washes and a sock hop. To be allowed to go, each student had to earn a certain number of community service hours.

The bus trip was 1 ½ hours long. Once we arrived, we were given all the rules and instructions. After settling in and making our bunks “homey,” we almost immediately had our first classes, which included kayaking, astronomy, archery, and fishing. All our meals were held at the Fillin’ Station and the meeting place was at the Parthenon, a large area under a canopy with bleachers.

When it was time to say farewell, I didn’t hear anyone say “Finally! Time to leave!” As far as I could tell, everybody wanted to stay.
