What an amazing community event we had with Octoberama on Saturday, October 22nd! Delighted squeals and laughter peals filled the air, along with beautiful music and the hubbub of hundreds of community members coming together in fun and fellowship.
The main stage under the canopy provided four hours of live entertainment, including beautiful dancing and a full slate of local musical talent. The school grounds were filled to the brim with 23 booths of games and activities, including a few new additions. I hope everyone had a chance to try out the fun new photo booth — and the petting zoo, which marked the first time in history that Octoberama featured a hedgehog! Five local vendors provided a variety of food, from fruit cups to smoked sausage, showcasing the many good eats our neighborhood has to offer, and our own 6th Grade students rounded it out with a yummy popcorn stand. In the gym, the silent auction welcomed browsers and bidders for over three hours, featuring beautiful gift baskets, personal teacher experiences, mosaic stepping stones crafted by our own students, and a huge collection of goods and services generously donated by our community.
As one of the PTA’s most important fundraisers of the year, Octoberama 2011 was also a huge success. Early estimates indicate we brought in more than $20,000 this year! This money will help support the Tech Program, Classroom Innovation Grants, Library Programs, Grounds Beautification, and much more. These are important school programs that benefit all students at Mathews, and the PTA is proud and happy to help make them possible.
Thank you to everyone who contributed time and talents, goods and services, money and all manner of other resources, to make Octoberama 2011 a great success! We love Mathews!!!
