Good news, everyone! We may have a new after school care option coming for this school year. Parque Zaragoza Recreation nenter has said that they are happy to send a van to pick up our kiddos after school to take to their site if we can get just 8 kids signed up. You MUST either call the Center (512-978-2460) or register in person and let them know that you would like for your child to be picked up at Mathews. Even if you aren't interested, please help spread the word so that we can get Parque Zaragoza as one of our after care options! Saturday, October 19: Come help us spruce up the school this Saturday for Building and Grounds Day from 9:00am to 12:00pm! Saturday, October 19: Austin High is hosting their Monster Concert at 6:00pm! Come watch our 6th grade Orchestra perform with the other beginning orchestras in the Austin High Vertical Team!

Thank you to all who have generously donated towards the prize fund.  We have a great collection of wonderful items starting to grow and because of your help our kiddos are sure to enjoy the many fun and tasty prizes that they will win at Octoberama!  If you have not yet donated, there’s still time! You can contribute by donating new party favor size toys or individually wrapped snacks/candies to the large wooden Dino bin labeled “Octoberama Prizes” in the main hall outside the office.  If you’d like to simply donate funds towards the purchase of prizes, there is a cash box located in the office labeled “Octoberama $$$ Donations”.  Any amount is welcome and appreciated!


Calling all Cake Bakers and Decorators!!!

It’s almost time for this year’s Cake Decorating Contest!

Last year’s First Ever Cake Contest was a HUGE success and we are excited to see what the Mathews students come up with this year!  The contest will be open to the entire Mathews student body with winning categories in each grade level, plenty of chances to win!


Winners will be awarded a hand decorated ribbon made by our very own Mathews kindergarteners as well as 10 FREE OCTOBERAMA TICKETS!!!  What’s more, these fabulous cake creations will be used for the ever popular Cake Disco at Octoberama!  More info to come next week!

Did you know that Mathews donates 4 lawn-size trash bags full of unclaimed jackets and other clothing items each year from lost and found? Please remind your child to check our lost and found hooks in the gym hallway. We also suggest clearly labeling the inside of items with your child’s name. Parents are welcome to look for items. Stop by the office for a visitor’s badge and any questions.

We are pleased to partner with the Center for Child Protection, a non-profit focused on preventing child abuse. Our staff was trained on how to spot signs of abuse and our students will be given two age-appropriate lessons on speaking up and being safe. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

Families,

Austin ISD would like your feedback on the newly written Human Sexuality and Responsibility lessons for grades sixth through eighth. Lessons and a feedback survey will be posted on the Parent Cloud from September 18th-25th. Middle school lessons will be revised based on feedback. Elementary lessons have already been revised from feedback provided last May.


Families must have an enrolled student in AISD and must have a Parent Cloud account to be able to review lessons and provide feedback. Please visit the AISD website, How to Create a Parent Cloud Account, for more information. Once in the Parent Cloud, look for the MS HSR Lesson Review Tile. Please contact the Parent Support line at 512-414-9187 if you need assistance creating an account.


Additionally, AISD is offering two meetings for families who need Spanish and Arabic interpretation. These meetings will be held at Navarro High School (formerly Lanier) on September 17 and Austin High School on September 19. Both meetings are from 6-8 p.m. If you are in need of another language, please contact Michele Rusnak , Health and Physical Education Supervisor, by Friday (9/13), at michele.rusnak@austinisd.org.

Wednesday, August 28: Back to School Night for our 3rd, 4th, and 6th graders will begin at 5:30pm! Click here for more information. Important to Know: There is no supervision for children for Back to School Night. We understand that some parents may need to bring their child(ren) with them and ask that parents please supervise their child(ren) during the event. Children who attend Mathews Fun Club should be picked up by 6:00pm.

Wednesday, August 28: Back to School Night for our 3rd, 4th, and 6th graders this time at 5:30pm!


Enrichment: For those who missed it, you can find info for some of our after school enrichment programs here.


Parents, please remember to hug and go in the morning.  The number of parents that have been in the hallway and cafeteria in the morning can make the transition to the classrooms challenging for our youngest students.
