CAN I SCHEDULE A SCHOOL VISIT?

We host a school tour on the second Tuesday of every month. We do not schedule school tours any other time. The only exception is when we reschedule our monthly school tour so it does not interfere with school operations, such as testing.

Please be sure to bring a photo ID. AISD requires all visitors to sign in with a photo ID.

WHAT ARE THE SCHOOL HOURS?

We open our door at 7:00am. Kids can come in and have breakfast until 7:30am when teachers come to pick them up for class. By 7:40am, any child who isn't already in their seat will be considered tardy.

The school day ends at 2:57pm. Teachers will take their classes outside for dismissal. Any child not picked up by about 3:15pm will be taken to the Office to wait for pick-up.

WHERE CAN I PARK?

You are free to park wherever you can find space to do so around the school so long as it does not violate any traffic laws or block a driveway. There is no parking allowed in front of the school from 7:00am to 8:00am and 2:00pm to 3:15pm.​ Click here for more details.

WHAT IS MY CHILD'S SCHOOL ID NUMBER?

You should be able to find your child's ID on your Cloud or your TEAMS. Alternatively, the Parent Helpline, (512) 414-9187, can help you.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO IF MY CHILD IS ABSENT?

If your child is absent for any reason, you must do one of the following:

If you are writing a note, be sure to include your child's full name, the date(s) they were absent, and the reason for the absence. This does not guarantee that the absence will be excused.

HOW DO I PICK MY CHILD UP EARLY?

To pick up your child, you must come into the Office, and we will call your child down and sign them out. Students being picked up early MUST be signed out at the Office. We do not call kids down ahead of time nor do we escort kids out. The process will be the same if someone else is picking your child up and they are on the pick-up list.

If they are NOT on your child's pick-up list, send an email to the Office with your child's name, the name of the person who will be picking them up, and whether this is a one-time event or if that person is to be added to your child's pick-up list. This must be done at least 2 hours BEFORE your child is picked up, and the person picking your child up MUST bring their photo ID.

HOW DO I CHANGE HOW MY CHILD GOES HOME?

If, for example, your child usually rides the bus but will instead be picked up today at dismissal, send an email to both the Office and your child's homeroom teacher as soon as possible, preferably the day before. If not, then please do so no later than 1:00pm. After 1:00pm, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to notify your child and their teacher.

If your child usually goes to Fun Club or another after school care option, be sure to notify them as well.

WHAT IF MY CHILD IS GOING HOME WITH A FRIEND ON A DIFFERENT BUS?

A written pass from the Office is required for a child to go home on a bus that isn't their usual bus. Please email both the Office and your child's homeroom teacher with your child's name, the name of the student your child will be going home with, and a written statement giving your child permission to go home with that friend on a different bus.

Again, as with any changes to how a child goes home, please send the email if not the day before, then at the very latest, before 1:00pm.

DO I NEED TO REGISTER MY CHILD EVERY YEAR?

Yes, you do. District policy requires that every student be registered each year.


If you are transferring to a different school within AISD, you must register online and request a transfer in-person, by fax, or on your Parent Cloud if you are already in the system. When you register online, register under your current school. It will not affect your transfer.

Even if you are transferring out of the district, we ask that you still register online.

DO YOU HAVE A PRE-K PROGRAM?

Yes, we do! We have a full-day Pre-K4 program here at Mathews. If your child turns four before September 1 of the school year you are wanting to register them for, they are eligible for Pre-K.  You can find more information here.

WHEN DOES MY CHILD HAVE LUNCH?

WHY IS MY CHILD'S LUNCH ACCOUNT BEING CHARGED EXTRA?

The price for lunch this school year is $3.00. Each meal comes with up to 2 fruits, 2 vegetables, and 1 entree. Any extra cost comes from a child getting seconds or from purchasing an item from the Ala Cart.
